Preparing for the Second World War and during the war by German cartographers in collections Vogels karte von Mitteleuropa, Vogels karte von Mitteleuropa Fliegerkarte, Fliegerkarte, Deutsche Heereskarte Europa, Deutsche Weltkarte 1:500000, Deutsche Heereskarte Europa Fliegerausgabe were published maps in scale 1:500000. Maps were made using all available cartographical material. Usually, one international map in scale 1:1000000 placed four maps in scale 1:500000. Maps in scale 1:500000 were numbered as maps in scale 1:1000000 adding letters (NW, NO, SW, SO) indicating position. There are also joined maps of 2, 4, 6sheets.
