How to see maps?
Mostly maps are given in zoomify format.

You need only Flash player.
Navigation is easy and intuitive.
How to find information about interesting period (maps)?
You should take attention to history. Then you can discover historic maps by producer (publisher). Example: during I WW territories of Lithuania were on interests of Russian Empire, Germany – you can discover German and Russian maps. Second example: during inter-war period (1918-1940) you can try discover Lithuanian maps, Latvian, Polish, Russian (as neighbors) maps… All maps are allocated by scale, sometimes according names of sets (best-known).
Always you can ask.
Where it is possible to find maps?
We are speaking only about scans.
1.You can make a trip to library, archive, museum. Servants of institution generally allow take a look with maps in funds. Normally it is possible to make a photo. Normally scanning is not allowed (or nor free).
2.You can discover internet. Some maps you can find (maps in big scale usually are not provided, exceptions are pleasant Polish sites).
3.You can make trades: all collectors are available.
4.You can apply to libraries of other countries (services are developer very well). Mostly services are paid (then see p.3)
The best libraries: LoC (library of Congress USA), Military archive in Sweden, Library of city Berlin, Polish archives (AGAG).
How to scan maps?
1.The best way – use wide format scanners and scan maps completely (or use services).
2.Possible use A3 (in worst case A4) scanner. It must needs that every scanned part of map cover neighbor part/parts (1-2 cm). Assembling into one map doing with specialized programs (soft).
3.Mode RGB (not b/w), resolution quite 300 dpi. We are proposing JPG files with compression 75-85 percents (large file).
